In 1999 the Coach hire was $170. We have used their Coaches for seventeen years.
Thirty-one members and ladies attended and the Newsletter said “the function was
thoroughly enjoyed by all.”

After the first annual Christmas luncheon at the RACV Healesville, 19 December

Marjorie Box, Carl Adamson, Joyce Hodgson, Peg Lillie, Joan Coffey, Clive
Hodgson, John Coffey, Bill Scudds, Ron Warne, Olive Hordern, Bob Shellard and
Cedric Hordern.
Some of the happenings mentioned were above were ‘once offs’, however over
the years there are about six regular “extraneous o r enduring” outings/functions which
have become annual events. These are: the Christmas Luncheon, Bowls Tournament;
Yarra Glen Race Meetings, Car Trips, Coach Trips, and City/Bush Walks. The regular
Trips/Outings/Functions Organizer did not organize most of these. You will read about
them progressively in the chapters that follow.
Another outing that became an annual affair was the Probus Bowls Tournament.
An invitation was sent to the Club by the Probus Club of Essendon to participate in a
Bowls Tournament at Glenferrie Hill Bowling Club on 28th March 1983. The invitation
was accepted and we entered a team consisting of Carl Adamson, Keith McLennan and
Bob Shellard and a ‘ring-in’ – a non member of Probus – Ray Hynds, the Lilydale
Postmaster and a prominent member of the Lilydale Bowling Club. The team lost their
first game by 2 shots but won the second game. A very pleasant day (and lunch) was
enjoyed by all. So successful was the day that an invitation was sent to all Probus Clubs
to send delegates to a meeting to be held after the Melbourne Probus Club’s weekly
meeting at the Richmond Football Club’s Social Club, to discuss arranging an annual
