[The current P.O. Box rental charge is closer to $50 per annum in 1999. The Club’s
Bank account was to be opened at the Commonwealth of Australia, Croydon. The Club
banked at Croydon for about 4 years and then transferred the account to the State Savings
Bank of Victoria, Lilydale because the incumbent Treasurer, Cedric Hordern did his
personal banking there. However after the “Pyramid” affair, the S.S.B. became the
Commonwealth, so we were back with our original Bank.]
INCORPORATION.1-12-1983 Moved John Coffey, seconded Carl Adamson
that the executive take steps to incorporate the Club with Keith McLennan as
Nominee and eventual Public Officer. Carried.
[This was an ongoing item in the minutes for most of President Stan’s year. Harry Box,
who was a semi-retired Solicitor, was the driving force behind the Club becoming
incorporated.]
INSURANCE : President Stan brought up and will enquire into Public Liability
Insurance
[This has been another ongoing item in our minutes under various President’s names,
Harry Brennan and Clive Winnett being two who had insurance ‘on their plate’ whilst in
office.]
AUDITOR. Carl Adamson was appointed the Club’s first Auditor. [In its first 15
years the Club has only had two Auditors – Carl and Albert Aird. Since then the auditors
have been Lex Lillie and Bert Patrick]
GUEST SPEAKERS. Speakers to be presented with a gift.
OUTINGS. Decided at October meeting that outings will be limited to one per
month for the time being.
NAME BADGES. Samples were displayed at the September meeting and it was
decided that name badges with LARGE LETTERING at $5 each be provided. We are
still using a similar badge and they seem to be very satisfactory and they can be read
from afar by “tired old eyes !” [Pity we don’t provide hearing aids for ‘tired old ears’ at a
bargain price. At least we now have a good sound system, mainly thanks to Harry
Brennan and Arthur Geary.]
CAR TRIPS. Keith McLennan suggested a car trip to Broken Hill.
[The first of many times a car trip was suggested but it took until Bert Walker’s
Presidential year before the suggestions bore fruit !]
OUTINGS. It was decided that neither meetings nor outings be held during
January each year.
[It took until 1995 before meetings were held in January and it is now the norm. and
outings also were introduced in 1995 – Arthur Geary’s year.]
The Club had been meeting on the first Thursday of each month, but it was
decided at the April 1984 meeting to meet on the second Thursday of each month as of
th
the 12 July of that year.
Stan Moser’s first full meeting as President was on 7th July, although he presided
over a committee meeting on Thursday 9th June. It is possible that Stan had the most
difficult job of all the Club’s Presidents because there was a lot of necessary formal
business to get the Club going and there was no existing format for the social aspects of
the Club. It could be argued that the social side of any Probus Club is the most important
part.
