subscriptions remained the same for the next financial year! You win some, you lose
some! It was reported though that several members and ladies had to have physiotherapy
treatment.!
There was a tour of the Melbourne Cricket Ground and lunch in the M.C.C.’s
Western dining room. Also a trip on Puffing Billy and a picnic at Lakeside; 31 members
and ladies attended. There was also a trip to the Stock Exchange in Collins Street,
Melbourne. This was in the days before a lot of members owned shares. We walked from
there to the R.A.C.V. in Queen Street, for lunch in the dining room.
One of the Club’s most enduring outings would have to be the movies at the
Waverley Theatre. We have since visited that theatre in every President’s year, except
that of Les Wanstall in 1991-1992. The first movie we saw was Terms of Endearment.
The cost of $6.50 per head, covered return coach fare (as it does now) and a basket lunch.
The other movie the Club went to in its first year was Educating Rita.
The other ‘enduring outing’, of course, has to be the annual Christmas luncheon.
With the exception of the 12th annual luncheon in 1994 (see chapter 12), the Club to the
time of writing this history had held 16 Christmas Luncheons at the Royal Automobile
Club of Victoria (R.A.C.V.) Country Club at Healesville.
The first annual luncheon was held at Healesville on Monday 19th December 1983. The
cost was $13 per head. It was decided to hire a Coach that departed Lilydale 11.30am and
returned at 3.30pm. McKenzie’s Coaches of Healesville were hired at a cost of $80.
