CHAPTER NINE
PRESIDENT GEORGE SANK: 1990 – 1991
George Sank and his wife Joan in 1997
ast President Bert Walker installed President Elect George Sank as the new
th
President. There was a good attendance at the 7 birthday annual general meeting
P and changeover: 30 members, 16 ladies and 7 visitors.
The July newsletter stated: “Carl Adamson, although not a well man,
distributed a list of speakers and outings for the ensuing six months. No speakers were
intended for this meeting because Carl again came to the party, organizing and
conducting a very interesting and pleasing exercise known as “Adamson Trivia”. It was
enjoyed by all present. Table 6 won on points. No names, no pack drill and
congratulations to the winners and thank you, Carl.”
That same newsletter also reported: “Keith McLennan retired as Public Officer
after a long period of service to our Club. He is being replaced by Les Wanstall, who was
suitably nominated and accepted.” What the newsletter didn’t reveal is that a Public
Officer ceases to hold that office if he (or she): (a) dies; (b) resigns the office by writing
under his (or her) own hand; (c) is removed from office; (d) becomes Bankrupt; (e)
becomes of unsound mind; (f) ceases to be a resident of Victoria; (g) attains the age of 72
years. (He must be at least 18 years of age and not more than 71.) Keith did not fill any of
the categories from (a) to (f) (he thinks) – but he did attain the age of 72 and was
“kicked out!”
At the August meeting new Treasurer Harry Brennan reported that the current
th
bank balance was $657. He mentioned that as of August 9 1990, 60% of the
membership were in arrears with their subscriptions
