CHAPTER EIGHT
PRESIDENT LEX LILLIE: 1989 - 1990

ex’s first meeting as President was well supported by an attendance of 30
members, 18 ladies and 2 visitors. The two visitors were Rotary Exchange
L students – Martine Luisone, a Swiss girl who spoke on Australia, and Nikki
Waldron, an Australian, who spoke on Switzerland.
Treasurer Jack Mackay, assisted by Les Wanstall, (who seconded the motion) got
the annual subscription raised by $2 to $14. This was carried unanimously. It was further
passed unanimously that $35 be our annual contribution to the Probus Centre – South
Pacific. The changeover meeting finished with the usual generous spread from the ladies.
It was resolved at the August meeting that Carl Adamson and the immediate past
president would be our delegates to the Outer Eastern Region Probus Association for the
forthcoming year. Carl Adamson also distributed a program of Guest Speakers and
Outings for the next six months. Laurie and Bertha Rogerson celebrated their Golden
Wedding Anniversary. They had planted a tree in Melba Park, Lilydale, to mark their
many years of service to the Lilydale Garden Club. (Author’s note – in 1999, ten years
later, the tree is flourishing. It has an appropriate plaque beside it.)

The second annual car trip was held in September from the 18 to the 22 . Two
things about this trip that were different (and which have not been repeated in the
thirteen car trips since) were (1) it was held in the Spring, all the others have been in the
