At the September meeting, Clive moved and Keith McLennan seconded motion
number one; whilst motion number two was again moved by Clive and seconded by Fred
Harding. Both motions were carried
For the second successive meeting, Clive had to pay tribute to a deceased
th
member. Del Trayler, who died in August, had been a member since 10 December
1992. He had been a meticulous Secretary with very high standards. He loved life and
lived it to the full. He was a gentleman and wonderful raconteur.
The October 1996 newsletter commenced as follows: “There was no newsletter
last month (September) as the PRODUCTION MANAGER was on leave and HER
assistant hasn’t mastered the computer yet – too dim!”
As at October 1996, it was reported that there were 57 financial members, with 5
who were not financial.
The death of Marjorie Box, wife of Harry Box who resigned in March this year
and was elected an honorary member, was reported at the September meeting. The Club’s
fourth Public Officer had to be appointed at the October meeting due to the resignation
from the Club of Graeme Kenyon. Graeme’s resignation (for personal reasons) was
accepted with regret and immediate past president Geoff Paul was appointed to fill the
post.
The November 1996 newsletter commenced with this item:
“CONSTITUTION. The long running saga of Probus Centre -South Pacific’s
endeavours to standardize club constitutions has finally ended with our club, in
common with many others, passing the “Recommended Resolution for
INCORPORATED Probus Clubs” which was received from the Centre. As far as
members are concerned, it is business as usual. Concurrently Outer Eastern
Region has been officially accredited by Probus Centre-South Pacific,”
The necessary motion was moved by Keith McLennan and seconded by Geoff Paul and
carried.
In Chapter 3 there is quoted the fairly long letter from E.J. (Ted) Cocker, Probus Club of
Bunbury published in the quarterly Probus News. I wrote there: “incorporation was
certainly a learning curve”. At Chapter 15 we are still learning and it continues on into
Chapter 17.
A second motion moved by Lex Lillie, and seconded by Donald McLean, that the
Club newsletter continue to be published monthly was carried, but only after an
amendment to publish quarterly was defeated. The minutes don’t record who moved and
seconded the amendment.
Russell Johnson advised the December meeting of his recent acquisition of a
painting of the opening of Federal Parliament in the Exhibition Building, Melbourne in
1901. Harry Brennan moved and Lex Lillie seconded a motion that a donation of $200 be
made to the Athenaeum Theatre to assist in the restoration of the painting
At the January 1997 meeting, Carl and Dorothy Adamson were congratulated
th
upon celebrating their Diamond (60 ) Wedding Anniversary on Boxing Day 1996. John
and Cath Hill celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in January 1997.
Additionally, President Clive referred to Treasurer Bert Milgate’s International Business
