CHAPTER FIFTEEN
PRESIDENT CLIVE WINNETT: 1996 - 1997
Past President Clive Winnett with Keith Appleby and Harry Brennan in 1998
th
t the close of the 13 annual general meeting, Joyce Paul produced the Club’s
th
13 Birthday Cake. It was ceremoniously cut by immediate past president Geoff
A and President Clive Winnett. Past president Arthur Geary and his wife Nancye,
who had travelled from Bendigo, attended this meeting too.
th
President Clive opened the 145 monthly general meeting following the annual
th
general meeting on Thursday 11 July by calling for one minute’s silence for Jack
th
Kellaher, who had died the previous week, on 6 July. As mentioned in the previous
th
chapter, Jack was our Guest Speaker on 13 June, only three weeks previously, when his
subject was “Some observations of a travelling man”.
President Clive then gave notice of motion that he would move at the meeting on
th
8 August 1996. This motion was that the reading of the previous meeting’s minutes be
re-instated instead of being taken as read. This was necessary because of the new Probus
Centre - South Pacific Insurance Policy and the need to keep members informed. This
motion was moved by Clive at the August meeting and seconded by Russell Johnson and
carried unanimously.
Clive gave notice of motion at the August meeting that he would move at the
th
meeting on 12 September 1996. It was that the Rules be altered to read that:
“That the number of Ordinary members on the Committee of Management be
increased from two to three. That, in future, the end of the Club’s financial year
th
be the last day of February, instead of the 30 June, as at present.”
