PRESIDENT GEOFF PAUL: 1995 - 1996

“President Arthur inducted Geoff Paul as President for 1995 -1996. Sherries and
savories were served in the foyer of the Athenaeum Theatre prior to the
commencement of the annual general meeting. Jack Coffey and his helpers served
a “sumptuous celebratory feast” after the meeting. An unusual touch was a
musical interlude of musical favourites performed by Cath Hill at the piano and
Rona Frogley on violin, vocal support by George Sank. John Hill brought the
house down with a wonderful rendition of “Albert and his ’orses ’ead ’andle.”
Early in his term, President Geoff expressed his desire to condense the formal
business of our meetings in order to achieve the Probus objectives of 30 minutes of
formal meeting, 30 minutes fellowship (morning tea/coffee etc.) and sixty minutes for the
guest speaker. To achieve this, several decisions were made in the hope of speeding up
the formal portions of our meetings. Following on a Committee of Management
recommendation, endorsed by the members at a general meeting, the minutes of the
previous general meeting were “taken as read”, a practice to be adopted for the future.
However the Minute Book was to be available for member consultation at all times. The
