appeared that the consensus was: “we continue along similar lines to those which we n ow
follow.”
Jack also commented that at the last Outer Eastern Region meeting, one of the
matters discussed was “who should pay when members of other Clubs are invited to
attend a Club function, incurring some cost.” After a deal of research, unfortunately ,
neither the Minutes, nor the Newsletter indicated the answer.” Much ado about nothing?
Congratulations were in order at the April and May 1993 meetings. Lex and Peg
th th
Lillie celebrated their 50 (Golden)Wedding Anniversary on March 11 1993. A month
th
later, Brian and Myra Walsh enjoyed their 40 (Ruby) Wedding Anniversary. On April
nd
22 1993, foundation member Bernie Burgi, reached 80 years of age. At the June
meeting, Jack Keefe was congratulated on reaching 90 years.

The 10 annual Christmas luncheon was again held at the R.A.C.V. Healesville
th
on 14 December 1992. The cost was $21 per head. 65 attended. The sixth annual visit to
th
the Yarra Glen races on 16 April 1992 was also well attended by 18 members and
ladies. The highlight was that there was NO RAIN.
th
The ninth annual Probus bowls tournament at Heathmont on March 10 1993 had
three Lilydale rinks involved. In our records there are no details of the teams that played,
but the March 1993 newsletter stated that:“Geoff Paul commented on the very suc cessful
bowls day at Heathmont. Three teams contested, one team being runners-up, a second
team being one shot off being the best team of the day (!) and the third team played very
well. All bowlers enjoyed the day. President Jack thanked Geoff for a job well done.”
Continuing with the Annual functions. The sixth annual car trip was at the Cadell
County Motor Lodge; 24 attended (the numbers were rising each year), with 17 units
th th
booked from 27 to the 30 of April 1993. There were lots of interesting places to visit.
This motel was without a doubt the best that we had stayed in to date, right on the Murray
River. We even had a special room set aside for the exclusive use of the members for our
Happy Hour. The highlight of the trip was the “hat” competition , which Harry Brennan
won hands down. He wore something like twenty different hats on the four nights.
The first of the “Coffey” barbecues was held on the Tuesday night – not quite
along the lines of their later elaborate barbecues, but for a first effort, pretty good, all
arranged more or less at the last minute. It was considered to be the best car trip we have
had so far.
Carl Adamson reported upon the Outer Eastern Region picnic day at Silvan Dam
th
on 29 March,1993. There was a good attendance of Probians from district Clubs and our
Club conducted a “tossing the horseshoe” competition, thanks to Les Wanstall. Carl also
reported on an O.E.R. quarterly meeting where the suggestion was made that Clubs in the
region combine to assist each other in filling coaches on tours where there are vacancies.
It appears that nothing came of the suggestion!
At the April meeting, Carl withdrew from the enormous task of providing guest
speakers once a month, which he had been doing since July 1987. Replacement co-
ordinators were to be elected at a later date.
A very special welcome was given at our May meeting to our foundation
Treasurer, Albert Aird, who had been in a Nursing Home since June 1991, President Jack
also welcomed back his namesake, John Coffey, who had been away ill for some time.
Carl reported upon a very successful and enjoyable outing on “Puffing Billy” to Emerald
nd
on 22 April. Mr. Clive Manley, was our Guest Speaker at our meeting, a fortnight
