my attempt to write the history of the Probus Club of Lilydale, will be of interest and
benefit to our members and perhaps to a wider audience.
I confess than in some instances I have taken some poetic licence, by altering
some words, and even sentences from the records, for the sake of clarity. I have also
endeavoured to acknowledge the source of all the material that I have used.
I should also like to thank Peter Baddeley for editing my manuscript and doing
the book’s layout. Finally, when extending thanks to various people, my wife Evelyn was
very understanding for two and a half years. She was very pleased to be able to use her
dining table again at the completion of my efforts.
Someone wrote, “Everyone has a book in him or her”. I hope that I have managed
to find that book, however, I am certain that I shall never come across a second one!
