Lillie, seconded by Bert Walker, (after President Les suggested it) that Honorary
Membership be conferred on Stuart. This was carried unanimously.
Also at this October meeting, Stan Moser, who was responsible for forming the
Ladies Probus Club of Lilydale Inc., on behalf of the Rotary Club of Lilydale, reported
on its progress to date. It officially became a Probus Club at their August meeting. (They
met on the first Tuesday of each month). They closed their membership at 55. Stan
thanked Harry Brennan and Keith McLennan for their assistance to him in getting the
                   new Club under way.
Later in the year, at the February 1992 meeting, Honorary Membership was
offered to two more long serving members. One was to foundation member Albert Aird,
who had been in a nursing home for some time. The other was to Frank Pollock, who
                                th
joined on 11 April 1985, and who had not been well for some time. Frank gratefully
accepted the offer, however Albert requested a stay of six months, as he preferred to pay
his subscription for the time being. (Albert was a very determined man, as you will read
in Geoff Paul’s presidential year.) A motion by John Hill, seconded Bert Walker that
Frank be made an Honorary Member was carried.
Harry Brennan raised the question at the December meeting of absent members. It
was possible that these people were blocking the way for potential new members who
wished to join the Club. At the April 1992 meeting, notice of motion from George Sank
was that the Club membership be increased from the current 55 to 65, since there was a
                   waiting list of 6 candidates.
At the next (May) meeting a decision was reached by the Management
Committee. It recommended that the membership of 55 remain until reviewed again at a
                   future date.
                                                           th
At the Committee meeting on 12 September, it was suggested that a Catering
Officer be appointed to take responsibility for morning tea and kitchen activity. Was this
the start of a different career in Probus by the Master Chef, Jack Coffey, and his wife
                   Aileen?
Keith McLennan, (seconded by Bert Walker) moved a motion at the February
1992 meeting that the Ladies Probus Club of Lilydale be permitted to be incorporated
under that name. This was necessary because of the similarity between the name of our
Club and the new Club, and the Corporate Affairs Office would not register the
application without our permission. This was carried and the Secretary was instructed to
complete the necessary documents under seal, and return them to the Corporate Affairs
                   Office.
                                                                              th
The Club’s second Life Member was elected at the 12 March 1992 meeting. The
minutes for that meeting give the details:
“Lex Lillie commented on the Notice of Motion proposed by him at the previous
                   meeting.
He nominated Keith McLennan to be invested as a Life Member of the Probus
Club of Lilydale Inc., as recognition for his contribution of service to the Club
from the beginning. Keith is a Foundation member, instrumental in the
Incorporation of the Club, also for the initial move for inviting Ladies to attend
our meetings and functions. Moved by Lex Lillie, seconded by Bert Walker and
carried. Stan Moser, who supported Lex Lillie’s comments, presented Keith with
his Life Member’s lapel badge and plaque. Keith suitably responded.”
