the annual general meeting to March. Clive generously agreed to serve a presidential year
of nine months instead of twelve.
During the second year of the Club, correspondence was received from the Probus
Club of Melbourne with regard to the formation of an Association of Probus Clubs. A
motion in three parts was put forward and carried, thus:
1.We are interested in general terms in the concept of joining a regional
Association with other Probus Clubs.
2.We would be interested in attending a meeting to discuss the formation of a
Second Victorian Association.
3. Provided that the independence of each Club is maintained, and each Club
remains entirely autonomous
Through this history mention will be made of different Associations of Probus Clubs. At
time of writing, (June 2000) the Lilydale Club is a member of two Associations, which
we have joined after a lot of discussion. The above was the first of the ‘Associations’
th
debates. At a General meting on April 11 1985, Bob Shellard, Carl Adamson and Lex
Lillie were elected delegates for a meeting at the Probus Club of Melbourne with regard
to the formation of a second Victorian Association of Probus Clubs.
The second annual Probus bowling tournament at Auburn Height Bowling Club
was held in March. The Club sent two teams and a very pleasant day was had. Three
games of 10 ends were played and some were successful. The eight members who
participated were: Carl Adamson, Jack Coffey, Lex Lillie, Keith McLennan, Graham
Nott, Bill Scudds, Bob Shellard and Brian Walsh.
Treasurer Albert Aird’s second annual financial statement showed a credit
balance of $125.43, an increase of approximately $55 for the year. Membership
numbers rose from 28 to 29. There were 6 new members but 3 resignations and 2 deaths.
At the June meeting, Jack Coffey proposed an overnight trip to the Latrobe
Valley, he suggested mid-November. If sufficient members and ladies were interested, he
and Arthur Coster were willing to prepare an itinerary and organize the trip.
Unfortunately, just as Keith McLennan’s suggestion of a car trip didn’t get off the ground
at the first suggestion, that was also the fate of Jack Coffey’s idea, too. However, the car
trips did take place and so did the Coach trips (courtesy of Carl Adamson). We eventually
inspected the Latrobe Valley on a coach trip. However, this was not the Club’s first coach
trip. The first Coach trip the Club organized was in George Sank’s year as President, to
be discussed in Chapter 9.
Bob Shellard conducted the June meeting and the July (A.G.M.) meeting and then
took over as President for 1985 – 1986.
