CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
PRESIDENT BERT MILGATE: 1999 - 2000
Martin Taylor hands over to Bert Milgate
th
he 16 annual general meeting took longer then usual because beside the usual
Treasurer’s and President’s reports, there were amendments to the Rules.
T Eventually President Martin installed Bert Milgate as President. Bert then
introduced and inducted his committee for 1999-2000 and also the numerous helpers,
“supporting administration and activity officers”, without whom the Club could not
function. (They are listed at the head of the statistics at the end of this chapter.)
After the conclusion of the annual general meeting there was the usual break for
morning tea/coffee. Bert then presided over his first meeting as President, which
concluded at 12.05 p.m. Ladies had been requested to “bring a plate”. The response was
so good that, besides providing morning tea, there was sufficient for a lot of the members
to also have lunch before going home. Of course, the Coffeys and their helpers, who
ensured that there was plenty of food, provided the usual plates of sandwiches.
Denis Lawson advised that the planned April outing to the Waverley Theatre to
see the film, Waking Ned Devine had been cancelled due to lack of support. This was
most unusual because, since the beginning of the Club in 1983, visits have been made to
the Waverley Theatre every year, often twice, except in Les Wanstall’s year, 1991-1992.
